Joan Ochi

Senior Director, Content Strategy, Communications

Joan is senior director of content strategy at Climate Lead, where she collaborates with colleagues across the organization to curate and develop  strategic communications that inspire action.

Joan has more than 25 years of experience working in communications and marketing in the nonprofit and corporate sectors. Prior to joining Climate Lead, Joan worked at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., advising partners across the university on communications and marketing strategies that conveyed stories of impact and inspired philanthropy. Previously, she worked in communications and marketing roles at Conservation International and at GlobalGiving.org, an entrepreneurial start-up nonprofit that helped popularize micro-philanthropy in support of social entrepreneurs around the world. Joan spent the early years of her career in finance and marketing at HP in the United States and Europe; she also lived in Sweden and Kuwait with her Foreign Service spouse.

Joan currently is based in Washington, D.C., where she and her husband enjoy occasional visits from their two young adult children. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Columbia University. A native Californian, Joan is familiar with the profound impact that climate change is having on our world and is excited to promote solutions that improve the well-being of people and the planet.
