Sue Tierney

Senior Advisor, Analysis Group

Sue, a senior advisor at Analysis Group, is an expert on energy economics, regulation, and policy, especially as it relates to the electric industry and climate mitigation policy.  She has consulted to businesses, government, system operators, Tribes, environmental groups, foundations, and others on energy markets and economic and environmental regulation.

Previously, she served as the assistant secretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Energy, and in Massachusetts she was the secretary of environmental affairs, a commissioner at the Department of Public Utilities, and head of the state’s Energy Facilities Siting Council.  She currently chairs the boards of Resources for the Future and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and is a director of the Barr Foundation, the Energy Foundation, and the Coalition for Green Capital. She has served on numerous committees of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. She previously served on numerous other boards and chaired the DOE’s Electricity Advisory Council as well as the external advisory council of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. She earned a Ph.D. and master’s degree in regional planning at Cornell University.
