Global Climate Strategies Partner
Rachael Petersen is a Global Climate Strategies Partner at the Climate Leadership Initiative (CLI). As part of the Global Climate Strategies team, she elevates high-impact giving opportunities by bridging the climate expert, grantee, and funder communities. Rachael brings a decade of experience designing and implementing science-based strategies to tackle climate change with expertise in natural climate solutions.
Prior to joining CLI, Rachael launched the climate giving strategy of a $1.2 billion family foundation in the Boston area. Rachael is also the founder and principal at Earthrise Services, a strategic advisory firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts serving nonprofits, think tanks and philanthropists. At the World Resources Institute, Rachael served as founding Deputy Director of Global Forest Watch, mobilizing a partnership of over 100 technology companies, civil society groups, donors, governments and corporations to stop deforestation. Rachael began her career researching forest climate policy at the Environmental Defense Fund.
Rachael has a BA in Environmental Policy and Anthropology from Rice University. Her passion for safeguarding the planet and its most vulnerable people grows out of extensive fieldwork in indigenous communities of the Amazon, Borneo, and Arctic Canada. Rachael speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese and proficient German.
